Soccer By The Numbers is edited and written by Chris Anderson who found himself keeping goal for a (West) German 4th division club when he was 17. He managed to hold on to the starting position for a couple of seasons and enjoyed watching the game from up close (with the occasional interruption when a save was called for). When a 3rd division club inquired about a transfer, he decided to retire from active play and go to university instead. Lacking imagination, he prolonged his stay in the university, eventually earning a PhD and becoming a professor at an Ivy League university in the United States. Today he's a social scientist who works on political economy and political sociology, and has held appointments at leading universities and business schools, including Cornell University, Oxford University and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Anderson is also an internationally recognized expert on the application of so-called multilevel statistical models of behavior. To find out more about his scholarship, click
